dubl duck straight razors are one of the most sought after collectibles. This one is in beautiful condition. The blade is shiny and tight. There is a slight warp in the scales, but it doesn’t interfere with proper closing of the blade. Hone wear is absolutely minimal. It is very sharp and shaves great.
dubl ducks take an edge readily and will hold a keen edge longer than many modern razors. Our research indicates that The Special No. 1 transcended all 3 eras of dubl duck production: Bresnick, Bresduck and Pearlduck. The Pearlduck versions had rounded butterscotch scales, 3 pins and a brass logo plate embedded in one scale. The Bresducks had flat butterscotch scales with beveled edges that were more translucent, only 2 pins and no brass plate, and a blued tang and tail. And then there were the Bresnicks, like this one, made for US distribution. They were similar to the Bresducks, but had lighter butterscotch scales and didn’t receive the gun blue treatment. Bresnicks were made from 1930 to 1952.
All straight razors we sell are shave ready. This razor was put through a full water stone progression to 10,000 grit and then finished on a blue green Escher. It was then stropped on linen and then leather. It’s fully stropped, sanitized with alcohol, coated with a thin film of oil, and is ready to shave as soon as you remove it from the package. Carefully wipe the oil from the blade with a tissue and it’s ready to use.
Note: This is a well used razor and is sold as is. There are scuffs and scratches, faint traces of dirt remaining between the scales, modest hone wear and a patina commensurate with a razor of this age. Any other shaving items in the photo are props and not included with your razor purchase.
Due to the risks associated with bloodborne pathogens, potential honing damage and scuffs and corrosion resulting from daily use, we cannot accept returns of used straight razors.
